Early Christmas Presents

Travis leaves for Nashville about a week before I do, and both of us will be there for Christmas.  So, my parents mailed their present to him in hopes it would arrive before he leaves.  It did. In fact, it arrived today. I knew what it was, but it was fun to watch Travis open and be surprised. :)

Woo hoo! New skillets :)

Dinner tonight, was simple.  Pasta, with goat cheese, and some garlic asiago cheese from Trader Joe’s.

We also got a bottle of wine, which was a great addition to the meal.

It was nice to have something quick, tasty and simple.   I’m now watching Top Chef All Stars, are you guys watching this season? I’m enjoying it, and I have to say, I’m surprised Marcel isn’t as annoying as he has been in the past!

Once this recorded episode is over, I’m going to be heading to bed to read and then sleepy time.  I’ve got a 4 mile run in the morning, and an 8 miler on Sunday morning.  We’re trying to play catch up since we’ve all been slacking on our longer runs.

I’ve also got some Christmas shopping to squeeze in, along with our grocery shopping trip for the week.  I’m looking forward to a mostly low key weekend, how about you?

My Cat, The Celebrity

Did you see Conan last night?  During Charlie Day’s interview, the second cat in the Kitten Mitten’s clip was our kitteh, Peanut!

She is now totally famous.  ;)

Here she is, watching herself.   It was kind of hilarious.  She sat on the couch, and kept staring at herself on the television screen, craning her neck forward, carefully creeping closer and closer to the TV.  She is a full blown celebrity in this house now. She’s even started demanding things…well, not really any more than usual.  Although she did start waking me up extra early for her breakfast.

Paint Fumes, and Pizza

This week at work, our facility is closed for yearly renovations.  Even though the facility is closed, our offices are open as usual.  However, this means that while they are re-painting and refinishing we are inundated with fumes.  For lunch, I had brought a frozen bean & cheese burrito, in a moment of weakness, I picked it up at the grocery store.  I knew however, that this would not be enough food, so when I saw this fresh salmon for $3 at a little market down the street, I picked it up.

I was really excited, fresh salmon! It was like getting sushi for lunch for really cheap.  Sadly, this salmon was really fishy and I couldn’t eat all of it.

This week’s Tuesday Night Dinner was held tonight as everyone is a little busy this week.  Because it was a last minute plan, we decided to order pizzas from Domino’s and make a salad.  It ended up being really nice.  We also had Heath Klondike bars.  They were delicious.  We then watched the end of Skating with the Stars (TRAINWRECK!) and Modern Family.

Our neighbors in the building next door are having a party, and are currently playing “Hook,” by Blues Traveler really loudly.  Don’t get me wrong, I really like Blues Traveler, but it is now 10:30pm on a Monday night, and I don’t really want to be able to hear my neighbor’s music.

In other news, Travis and I are attempting to stay up to watch Conan tonight because someone told us Peanut might be featured!

A  while ago,  we were given the opportunity for Peanut to be featured in the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia DVD as part of a Kitten Mitten’s extra.  Apparently a friend saw Charlie Day’s interview and thinks she saw Peanut in the clip they played! Our little girl could be famous ;)

November, What?!

How is it already November? Seriously? This year is just speeding along, and I feel like I’m way behind. Sorry I was absent this weekend, it was a busy one. Also, please forgive me for my terrible misspelling of “Slam” in my Poetry Slam Sunday. I have been clearly running on fumes lately, since I didn’t notice until the other day that it said “Slame”  which, is, you know, not even a word.

Anywho, this past weekend, ushering in November was full of stuff.

Friday night, we celebrated my friend’s 27th birthday.  We started at Nook in West LA for dinner, then moved on to Liquid Kitty for drinks.  We have been to Nook several times over the last three years or so.  The food is always delicious, the service always excellent, and it’s just a great restaurant overall.

This time, Travis started with the

Kurobuta Pork Belly
with tomatillo, black-eyed peas and shiitake. appetizer

and the table shared the Crispy Calamari

The creamy sauce was a little spicy, but not overwhelmingly so.

Three of the ladies got the Chicken Paillard, which looked delicious (except for all the capers.)

I went with my usual, Pot Roast.  It is so delicious here, and the bread with avocado spread was SO good.

Travis got the pork chop.  Two pork dishes in one meal. That’s how he rolls.

Dessert was an amazing red velvet cake from Hot Cakes in Culver City.

I ate almost the whole piece.

I ended up skipping Saturday’s run, I felt awful. Spent most of the day in bed, sleeping off the cold & sinus medicine I had Travis pick me up at Target.   Then, we were off to our friends’ Halloween party.

Jem & Elvira

The boys were a lot better than we were at Beer Pong.

And I won the costume contest!!

Sunday, was another gross, snuffy, coughy day, I spent a good part of it in bed, grogged out on cold & sinus meds.  Sadly, we didn’t get ANY trick or treaters which really bummed me out.  Now we’re back to Monday and we’re in full swing again.

Travis and I are trying to catch up on a week’s worth of TV we didn’t watch.  We’ve got last week’s Parenthood, The Office on the block for tonight.  Wednesday we’ll have to do Boardwalk Empire and Dexter.

Friday Night Lite

Well, it’s finally Friday. This week felt like it would never end. So, tonight loafing was definitely in order. For dinner, we nuked the leftover Pot Roast.

It was just okay.  The veggies were still a little to crispy, but it was nice having something warm. Today was overcast and misty all day, I don’t know why I bothered to blow dry my hair this morning, by the time I got from my car to the doctor’s office, it was all frizzy.

Tonight definitely called for one of these:

I’ve got an 8 mile run on the schedule for tomorrow morning, I’ve got to pick up my new glasses (from ridiculously handsome eye doctor. Seriously, he looks like Zac Efron‘s older brother,) and we’re going to a party at a friend’s house tomorrow night.  Sunday, is AIDS Walk LA, so I have to leave extra early for my first teams practice because our apartment is surrounded by the route. Don’t get me wrong, I think the AIDS Walk is a great event, what I don’t think is great, is how it essentially traps me in a little box of four blocks every year.

Good thing I got these:

Drugstore.com was having a sale.  :)   Drugstore.com is awesome. I love internet shopping, in a really major way.  It helps that I earn 300 points on mypoints.com  with every drugstore.com purchase. That’s 300 points closer to a totally rad gift card :)

Right now, I’m sitting on the couch, catching up on The Big C, remembering how much I love Laura Linney.  Sadly, the recording on our OnDemand is spotty on the second episode.  Although, best moment of this episode is the reference to John Irving‘s The Hotel New Hampshire, which is one of my all time favorite novels.  What’s your favorite novel?

Thin is the New Happy?

Over at Eat, Move, Write, Jasmine is doing a giveaway!  I love memoirs, and she is giving away a copy of Valerie Frankel’s book, Thin is the New Happy.  Head on over and enter!!

I don’t know about you guys, but I am really glad tomorrow is Friday. I finally forced myself to do a treadmill run after work, and originally wanted to do 5 miles, but only managed to make myself do 2.17  It was rough mentally.

Dinner was a disappointment.  We decided to make the fresh tortellini we bought with some Trader Joe’s alfredo sauce.  The sauce was really bland, and the pasta was just meh.

I’m beat, so I’ll be watching some TV, doing some reading, and goin to bed.  I’ve got an early doctor’s appointment, so tomorrow will be another long day.  At least it’s Friday!  Yay!

What do you do when you have a disappointing dinner?

Big

I have a confession to make. I love TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress.  I love seeing all the pretty dresses, and how excited so many of the women are when they find the perfect dress. It makes me want to go to Klienfelds and just walk around.

What I don’t like? The fact that they’ve done a series called “Say Yes to the Dress Big Bliss.”

It is NOT that these are larger “full figured” or “plus sized” women that I don’t like.  What I don’t like is that they are singled out for a whole series, like they couldn’t have been featured in with the other women?  I feel like, the way they focus on the fact that the woman featured are “plus sized” “full figured” “larger” “not a sample size” could have been done in a way that didn’t make it seem like “These women are SO different we have to have a whole series of shows to feature them!! With different commercials and everything!!”  Maybe I’m wrong, I don’t know, I just know it made me feel uncomfortable that there’s this whole series that makes these women out to be anomalies. It makes me sad.  Yes, I understand that it is a challenge when you aren’t the same size as the sample sizes (btw, wtf is up with sample sizes anyway?)

Do you think doing separate episodes to feature “Big Bliss” is a step forward, or a step backward?

Thursday, Catch Up

How is it already Thursday? I guess that’s what happens when you are home sick Monday and Tuesday.  You know what else happens? Your brain gets fuzzy and you sign Get Well cards with “Happy Birthday Fred! Have a great day!”

Oops.

Sorry about the turn down super emo lane yesterday.  Things have been a bit rough the past week or so, and it felt good to just… type it out.  Onto happier things, like food, and nekkid kittehs!

Tuesday night was shrimp, roasted red potatoes and corn.

Wednesday night, fried catfish, mac and cheese (which made me feel super gross), and broccoli.  Travis breaded and fried the catfish himself. The breading was a bit bland but otherwise it was cooked perfectly. We also had bread, and I drank an Emergen-C.

Tonight: pasta, meat sauce with goat cheese, and homemade garlic bread. Something I ate made my stomach really mad at me though (I have a feeling it may have been the pasta :(

I’ve got a doctor’s appointment set up in a few weeks (actually next month because that was the earliest they could get me in for a non-emergency appointment before work,) and I have a whole list of things to talk to my doctor about.  My ongoing sinus headaches, my mid-day extreme fatigue, and a possible wheat sensitivity.  Also, I don’t know if it’s hormonal, but in the past two weeks or so I’ve been craving sugar in a big way.  Normally when I have a craving for something it’s a protein, like steak.  Lately I’ve been craving bread, and sweets.  Yesterday, I left work a little early and stopped at the grocery store for a few things, you know… like a loaf of French bread, some cans of soup, a box of chocolate chip granola bars, a package of chocolate chip lovers Toll-House cookie dough, and a toffee and almonds Symphony chocolate bar (which I ate half of in my car on the way home.)

I didn’t really notice anything until the woman in front of me at check out said “Oh! I see you’re a chocolate lover too!”

=X Too much chocolate?  What kind of cravings do you get?

Little Bits likes to sit on the top of the our dining room chairs while we eat, and peek over our shoulders to see our food.

Tuesday night after dinner, we gave the girls baths.  They were less than pleased, but at least now they’re clean!

Time for The Office!

Visiting Tree Hill

One Tree Hill (TV series)

Image via Wikipedia

Two of my girlfriends and I love One Tree Hill.  It’s a terrible show, with outrageous story lines, but it’s fun. I mean, in what other TV show will you see a dog eat a heart meant for a transplant? Seriously, that actually happened on the show.

Hope you never have to go to a hospital in Tree Hill, right?

Anyway, the new season started three weeks ago, and the three of us hadn’t yet seen any episodes, so we decided to do a mini marathon last night.  We each made our own pizzas, had some salads and garlic bread and then dove into Tree Hill.

I ate my whole pizza (four small pieces) and the salad as well as that one large piece of garlic bread.  It was delicious. My pizza had sauce, mozzarella and goat cheese.

This morning I was supposed to have a 7 mile run, but I woke up with a terrible headache, and super sore and scratchy throat and the chills.  Several people at work have been sick and the girls last night were just getting over colds, so I wanted to make sure I didn’t overdo it, and end up getting really sick.  I’m feeling better now, but still scratchy and my head hurts. :(   I’m going to rest some more, and hopefully if I’m feeling better later this afternoon I’ll attempt my 7 miler. I hate that my training for this half marathon has been so difficult to follow.

Woo Hoo!

You guys! I won another writing award from Eat Move Write.  Talk about awesome self esteem boost! :) This prompt was a toughie, and the two other winners have excellent stories as well! I urge you all to head over and check them all out.

This afternoon I had lunch with my parents out in Pasadena.  We decided on PF Chang’s which my mom had never been to before.

We started with the famous Chicken Lettuce Wraps.

I had two.  Sorry for the terrible photo quality, I had to use my cell phone. Oye.

My entree was the Coconut Curry Vegetables with Tofu, but I also had a few bites of my dad’s Lemon Chicken, and my mom’s Lemon Scallops.  All the dishes were tasty, but my veggies had a little more curry than peanut in the sauce.

On the agenda for this evening is a mini One Tree Hill marathon with the girls.  We’ve got the first three episodes of this season to catch up on.  So, Travis and I will be making homemade pizza (homemade dough too!) and the girls are bringing some garlic bread. Yummy!  Keeping this evening low key is crucial since we were out til 2am last night (and Travis may have had a bit too much to drink =X and I’ve got a 7am 7miler on the schedule for tomorrow morning!

What are your weekend plans?
