About Me

Hi, I’m Catherine, but you can call me Tiny. I am 28 years old, I live in Los Angeles with my boyfriend, Travis, and our two Sphynx cats (Peanut and Little Bits), and I have currently completed two  half marathons.

I originally started this blog as a place to rant and rave about anything and everything, but am finding that it is a helpful tool (along with the other web based tools I’ve discovered) in my training process. I am new to running, and have come to this kicking and screaming so to speak.  My dad was always the runner in our family.  He has completed several marathons, and many 10k races.  In high school, I participated in our annual 10k fundraisers, but I certainly wasn’t running them.  I used to be quite active in dance, but have been out of it for a while due to injuries and work and being an adult and having to pay bills and have been feeling quite out of shape and sluggish.   So, a few months ago, when my friend said she was signing up for a half marathon through Disneyland, I decided I wanted to join her.  I’m pretty sure it’s Disneyland that sealed it for me.

I spent 15 years of my life as an Irish dancer. At the peak of my dancing career I was also taking pilates and ballet regularly. Sidelined from solo competition by injuries that I never quite let heal properly, I am also working on getting my T.C.R.G. so that I can one day teach Irish dancing (and injury prevention!) to a new generation of Irish dancers.

I am not new to the internet.  Way back in 1997 I became a fan of a little band called Hanson, and while surfing the web for fan sites, decided that not only could I create my own fan site, but I could do it better.  So, I set out to teach myself HTML and Photoshop (started with Paint Shop Pro). My fan site went through several incarnations, and evolved into “personal” pages which were essentially blogs.   Along the way I made a lot of friends (many of whom I am still friendly with today), and learned a lot about myself.  I stepped away from websites and web design for a few years, but always seem to come back.

My banner was created by the lovely, talented Danielle Moss

So, welcome to Jig and Jog, I hope you enjoy your stay :)

  • Groovy! I used to live in LA. It’s a fun place to be. And I’m from Tulsa, I see the Hanson guys all the time, they’re always doing something. I enjoyed your post about swapping, it’s so true. i have a 7yo daughter and I try very hard to keep a realistic body image for her by being a good example. It’s tough to look at those mags and not want to be perfect like them, but I’ve finally figured out that they’re not as perfect as they look. Even they feel that way. Keep up the good work, and if you need a good chiropractor, I have several friends in the LA area, mostly OC who can do alot of good for you! chiropractic care can really help you recover from those injuries.

I’m so glad you’re trying so hard to give your daughter a healthy body image! Way to go!! That’s the best way to do it, I think :) I’d love to know of any chiropractors in the LA area! I saw one for a little over a month a few years ago and it was great, but my insurance didn’t cover much at the time and I couldn’t afford to keep going, but it felt so good!
