For the Feets

So, I really like shoes. I know, I’ve said it before, and talked about my shoes before, but seriously, shoes are awesome.  Saturday, I had an errand to run in the West LA area, and made plans to have breakfast/brunch/lunch with a friend once she was done with yoga.  Well, I finished my errand earlier than expected, and decided to stop at the Payless Shoestore on Washington and Inglewood, because while I do love shoes, I really love cute, inexpensive shoes, and lately, Payless has totally been delivering on cute, affordable shoes.  Also, I’ve been looking for a pair of flat boots for ….years. I just couldn’t commit to a pair, and finally, I found them.

I also found this adorable pair of purple wedges for $10. TEN DOLLARS people. I couldn’t NOT get them.

Add to that the extra 20% off I got for signing up for their text alerts (which I then unsubscribed from,) and I got both pairs of shoes for about $40.  I was thrilled, and I even wore the boots to work on Monday :)   What’s your best shoe find?

Fall Back

Daylight Savings Time ends at 2 a.m., but I’m having a hard time with this “fall back” business.  You see, the weather here in Los Angeles lately has been, well, hardly fall like.  I know we don’t get actual seasons, and we hardly ever see the leaves change, but is it too much to ask for some crisp weather?  You know, something below 80 degrees preferably?  Today, at least, we had a bit of clouds, and the temps have dropped again. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for more drops to come.

My toes are quite sore after more than two hours of dance practice this afternoon.  It had been two weeks since my last practice, and a year since the last time I danced before that.  In street shoes, I wear a size 6 womens, but in Irish dance soft shoes, I wear a 2.5.  I but my shoes so much smaller not only because there is a size difference anyway, but because when they’re smaller, they look neater, and if you buy them with room in the toe, they’re too big, and get stretched out. Basically, you want a nice, snug fit, and the 2.5s are the perfect size. Here I am two years ago at regionals, you can kinda see how small the shoes make my feet look. Although, they are pretty small anyway.  Also, just to clear things up, yes, I used self tanner on just my legs. It’s an Irish dance thing.

When I was dancing all the time, it was rate that my toes would hurt after practice. Usually they would be a little sore after a major competition, because I danced harder at competitions than at class, but even then, usually, more often than not, it was my arches that would be on fire.  There’s no support in those shoes. ;) Anyway, after class today, I noticed I had two tiny blisters on the tops of my second toe on each foot. Ahhh, memories. It’s funny to me that for dance I buy shoes in a smaller size, and for running I buy them slightly larger. It isn’t just my toes that are sore from today’s practice, my right knee is a bit sore, which is I guess a nice break for the left side of my body which normally hurts. Jokes. I stretched, and took some Ibprofen and hopefully some rest will make me in tip top shape for tomorrow.

On the schedule for tomorrow is a 6 mile run.  We’ve got to really start buckling down and working on increasing our mileage since we’re about nine weeks away from the Phoenix Rock n’ Roll half marathon in January!  Time is just flying by. I’m off to read, and then sleep so I can be up bright and early for our training!

Fall Envy

Today, it was 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Los Angeles, and I have major fall envy.  This is hardly the first year I’ve felt extreme seasonal envy, but man, I could really go for some changing leaves, and brisk weather.

Last night, we made The Pioneer Woman‘s Beef with Snow Peas, and I totally spaced and didn’t take any pictures.  Seriously, I was so busy eating, and enjoying our company (it’s been several weeks since we’ve had people for dinner,) that I didn’t even realize I wasn’t being a good blogger.  I apologize, but know that the Beef with Snow Peas were delicious.

Tonight, for dinner, Travis made a roast chicken which I will post an update about tomorrow :)

After work today, I had a 6 mile speed work run planned, and for lunch, I had a Maruchan Instant Lunch (Cup Noodle,) which was a terrible idea.  This run was SO HARD.  Two seconds in my left knee started to ache, and then about halfway in , my right baby toe started getting a blister.  What kind of socks do all of you wear when you run? I’ve just been wearing my regular old Champion brand socks, which have been pretty much fine so far.  I’m starting to realize that not having performance socks may be a mistake.

I also know I will be due for another pair of shoes soon though, as I just realized today I have logged an estimated total of 244 miles since June.  I just saw that I purchased my shoes on June 18th, that also brings me to about 5 months of running in them.  I have a feeling running shoes and socks will be on my Christmas list this year ;)   Does that make me officially a runner?

I have to be at work at 7:45 tomorrow to set up for a meeting, so it is off to bed for me!  I’m re-reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in preparation for the movie.  Sadly, I will be out of town for a dance competition the opening weekend, but I can promise you I will be seeing it in theaters!  Are you a Harry Potter fan?

Casual Friday

Volleyball reception

Just a quick update before I head off to work today.  This afternoon we’re having a staff BBQ/lunch (I say/lunch because it’s actually not BBQ food, it’s Subway) and we’ll get to eat sandwiches and play volleyball as a staff.  Awesome right?  Also awesome, I get to wear yoga pants to work.

Here’s the thing, I used to love to get dressed up, I wore heels a lot. I love shoes, and I still own a good number of awesome shoes (these beautiful red pumps I bought earlier this year, my favorite leopard print peep toe pumps…), but somewhere along the line, I stopped enjoying the dressing up.  It became a hassle.  Then, because I’d gone so long without dressing up, it felt weird when I did.

Almost all of the jobs I’ve had, especially in recent years, have allowed me to come to work very casual, jeans, t-shirts, whatever.  When I worked for the organization I’m with now last year, I was working in programs (i.e. child care, day camp, parent/child, swim lessons), so I could get away with wearing an organization polo or t-shirt and yoga pants with tennis shoes, because it fit my line of work.  Now that I’m working in Financial Development, that’s another store.  So, getting to dress down today is exciting for me :)

It also means I’ll be ready to go right after work so I can just hop on the treadmill and go!

Question: Does your job have casual Fridays?
