Why Isn’t Today Friday….and Other Questions This Week

Lately, my weeks have felt all jumbled, I never really know what day it is, and usually end up thinking Thursday is Friday, and Wednesday is Thursday, and it’s really all quite disappointing. Add to this the fact that I am not running at all for the next two weeks, and that makes my weeks even more confusing.  I had a schedule, I knew what day it was when I was running.  Now, I’m a mess! This rest/ no running crap is not sitting well with me. Not at all.  Why isn’t today Friday?

After making a healthy dinner of salmon last night, when I got home today, I just wanted to sit on the couch and have dinner magically cooked for me.  Sadly, even though it is 2011, we do not yet have the technology for food to magically appear cooked in front of you from your kitchen.  So, I did the next best thing.

I ordered pizza, and to ensure I made the delivery minimum

Cheesecake. Hey. My Friday is going to be slightly stressful, I earned this pizza and cheesecake.  I’m taking Bits to the vet tomorrow to have her spayed, which means I will get to sleep in a bit, but will also be late to work, which means I won’t have a full day at work which is annoying.  Not as annoying as Bits in heat though (why is she crying so loudly?!) so it seems like a somewhat fair trade.

Apparently people are upset about this week’s American Idol results, my question is, why do people still watch American Idol?

Sloth

When Travis is out of town, I tend to eat a lot of pizza.  Case in point, I am eating pizza for dinner tonight, I had pizza for dinner a few nights ago.  The kittehs like pizza too, see!

Just kidding, they just like sitting on the stove after the oven’s been on, because it’s so warm.

The good news is, I care very little about this, because pizza is delicious, and also extremely easy. Plus, I’ve been downing green smoothies for breakfast like it’s my J-O-B so, I feel like I’m getting a good dose of veggies there anyway ;)

Yesterday, after spin class, I asked one of the personal trainers at work about some exercises to do on the machines in order to strengthen my legs and help avoid knee pain.  He recommended leg extensions using a very light weight and about 15 reps.  So, I did three sets of 15 reps on the leg extension machine, and then 3 sets of 15 on the leg curl machine.  I’m planning on working that into my regular routine, and hopefully that, coupled with actual, regular stretching will fix my damn knees.

I will be running my 10k for the She Runs LA event tomorrow after work so that I will have enough time to party it up on Thursday at the event downtown. ;)

In other news, I’ve started a new young adult series, The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare.  I’m about a quarter of the way through the second book, and I’m really enjoying it.  It’s not quite as engaging as The Hunger Games, but it’s pretty entertaining ;)

Also, can you believe it’s only Tuesday?! I woke up this morning, and it felt like Monday all over again.  Ugh.  I’m definitely looking forward to Friday this week.

Trying New Things

Wednesday, I didn’t make it through a full day at work, but when I woke up after my post-work, allergy med induced nap, feeling better, and hungry, Travis and I decided to make a simple pizza for dinner.  We already had cheese, and salad mix, and it would be fast.  So, off to Trader Joe’s we went, hoping to find pizza dough and milk for Travis. We’d never used anything other than Boboli, or our own homemade dough, so we wanted to try the Trader Joe’s dough and see how it stacked up.

Behold! The elusive Trader Joe’s pizza dough!  We looked all over the damn store for this dough.  I finally found it near the pre-made salads, who knew?  We also picked up some special four cheese, shredded cheese because it’s better than plain old mozzarella.

Travis tried adding an egg wash to his crust.

That giant cheese bubble? Yeah, that’s my pizza.  BAM!

Verdict?  I wasn’t blown away by the dough, in fact I think the dough we make from scratch is better.  It was kind of bland, but the four cheese mix was the way to go. It was delicious!

Lunch on Thursday was one slice of the leftover pizza and these:

Yah, I also bought these on Wednesday night at TJ’s.  They are delicious.  I may or may not have eaten one square of pizza, and then several handfuls of gummie bears.

Om nom nom.

Speaking of  trying new things, remember when I hand washed laundry last week? Yeah, so, it definitely took two whole days for all that laundry to dry, so maybe smaller, light weight items like underroos and sports bras would be ok, but the pants and socks took forever to dry.  Although, maybe what I really needed to do was have a drying rack, and put it on our patio during the daytime.  Instead, I only had space to hang in our bathroom and hallway.

What new things have you tried recently?

Visiting Tree Hill

One Tree Hill (TV series)

Image via Wikipedia

Two of my girlfriends and I love One Tree Hill.  It’s a terrible show, with outrageous story lines, but it’s fun. I mean, in what other TV show will you see a dog eat a heart meant for a transplant? Seriously, that actually happened on the show.

Hope you never have to go to a hospital in Tree Hill, right?

Anyway, the new season started three weeks ago, and the three of us hadn’t yet seen any episodes, so we decided to do a mini marathon last night.  We each made our own pizzas, had some salads and garlic bread and then dove into Tree Hill.

I ate my whole pizza (four small pieces) and the salad as well as that one large piece of garlic bread.  It was delicious. My pizza had sauce, mozzarella and goat cheese.

This morning I was supposed to have a 7 mile run, but I woke up with a terrible headache, and super sore and scratchy throat and the chills.  Several people at work have been sick and the girls last night were just getting over colds, so I wanted to make sure I didn’t overdo it, and end up getting really sick.  I’m feeling better now, but still scratchy and my head hurts. :(   I’m going to rest some more, and hopefully if I’m feeling better later this afternoon I’ll attempt my 7 miler. I hate that my training for this half marathon has been so difficult to follow.

Woo Hoo!

You guys! I won another writing award from Eat Move Write.  Talk about awesome self esteem boost! :) This prompt was a toughie, and the two other winners have excellent stories as well! I urge you all to head over and check them all out.

This afternoon I had lunch with my parents out in Pasadena.  We decided on PF Chang’s which my mom had never been to before.

We started with the famous Chicken Lettuce Wraps.

I had two.  Sorry for the terrible photo quality, I had to use my cell phone. Oye.

My entree was the Coconut Curry Vegetables with Tofu, but I also had a few bites of my dad’s Lemon Chicken, and my mom’s Lemon Scallops.  All the dishes were tasty, but my veggies had a little more curry than peanut in the sauce.

On the agenda for this evening is a mini One Tree Hill marathon with the girls.  We’ve got the first three episodes of this season to catch up on.  So, Travis and I will be making homemade pizza (homemade dough too!) and the girls are bringing some garlic bread. Yummy!  Keeping this evening low key is crucial since we were out til 2am last night (and Travis may have had a bit too much to drink =X and I’ve got a 7am 7miler on the schedule for tomorrow morning!

What are your weekend plans?

TGIF

The past week and a half, I’ve felt really out of it. My brain has been fuzzy, and  I’ve been exhausted all week, it seems, no matter how much sleep I get. I’m hoping this weekend will give me a chance to recover, and rest up.

This week is supposed to me my rest week before I start training for the Rock n’ Roll half marathon in Phoenix, but I think I’m going to go on a run tomorrow morning.  It might be good to just get out and clear my head.  I can’t believe I just wrote those words.  I never thought I would not only run a half marathon, but enjoy it, let alone train for another!

I started this morning off with some oatmeal, mostly because we were out of milk.

The usual:

1/2 cup rolled oats + 1 cup water, microwave 2 mins
Trader Joe’s Three Berries Granola
Slivered Almonds
Chocolate Chips
Almond Butter

For lunch I brought some leftover pizza from last night. I made a Boboli with a whole wheat crust, mozzarella and goat cheese.

It was good, but the whole wheat crust never got as crispy as the regular crust did, which was a bummer, but it was yummy and quick and easy, and it made for pretty good leftovers :)

I also made myself a salad because I kept forgetting I had avocados.

I love avocados, don’t you?

This afternoon around 4pm I had to run an errand that took me right past a Pinkberry, and I treated myself to a mini mango with some strawberries and mangoes.  It was the perfect little pick me up.

On my way home from work I had to pick up something at CVS so I grabbed some milk and made Hamburger Helper for dinner.  Not a good or healthy choice at all, but I’m still trying to eat whats in the house before I go grocery shopping this weekend.

I’m nearly finished with Gone With the Wind, and I have to say, it’s grown on me.  It’s a lot of book, a lot of story, but I think I like it. :)

Za!

For brunch I made an omelette. Originally, I was planning on making just scrambled eggs with goat cheese, spinach, tomato and some turkey. I was actually kind of excited about it. Then, I discovered that the goat cheese was not good, the spinach was also, not good, and the turkey had a little bit of a weird texture (it was squishy, ew). So, compromise, I used mozzarella and tomato. Sadly, it didn’t turn out as well as I’d hoped, and I ended up eating only like a quarter of it.

I love pizza, I always have. My favorite is definitely plain old cheese pizza. Just cheese (sometimes extra cheese) please! I don’t need anything on

When Travis got home from the World Cup game, we took a nap, and ended up wasting the whole day, which normally would disappoint me. But, since I’m not feeling so great, it’s merely an inconvenience. We need to go grocery shopping this weekend.

My vote for dinner tonight, was pizza. I love pizza. My favorite is just plain old, cheese pizza. So, we ordered a pizza from North End, half cheese, half prosciutto for Travis. It was tasty, but my plain slices totally had some prosciutto on them and it was VERY salty. Ick.

The kittehs were very interested in the pizza.

Now, Travis and I are watching the last two episodes of Season 3 True Blood (Travis needs to catch up) so we’ll be ready for tomorrow’s new episode. :)
