Foot Pain Update and Thankful Things Thursday

This picture has nothing to do with anything in this post, but it made me kinda happy, so I stuck it in here anyway. The pattern on the dress, and the nailpolish (I used to own a color like that,) and the rings just made me cheerful, so …woo!

I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, just a little bit. Mostly because I woke up with a bit of a headache.  We have finally determined the cause of Bits’ tummy troubles, and will have to permanently switch her over to sensitive stomach food.  We were hoping we could manage to get through the giant bag of food we’d bought but her stomach gave us a resounding “NO!” So, onward and upward, eh?

Foot pain update:  last night, I soaked my foot in warm water with epsom salt (at the advice of my mother,) which seemed to only make it hurt more, so after the soak I iced it, and took some ibuprofen.  This morning, when I woke up, it was still inflamed and sore, but not nearly as bad as yesterday.  So, I brought my workout gear with me, and should my foot feel up to it, I will do some cardio after work.  However, I probably won’t be doing a true Tempo run just because I’d really rather not press my luck.  If it weren’t for the redness and inflamation I would proably just be ignoring this pain (which is, pretty much, my MO,) but it’s concerning to me that I can’t seem to determine why it’s inflamed.

In order to get myself out of this funk I’m in today, I’m going to participate in Ali (over at Ali on the Run)’s Thankful Things Thursday.

* I am thankful for the gorgeous weather we are currently enjoying here in Southern California.   – Sure, it’d be kinda nice if we experienced actual seasons, you know, like the rest of the country, but when it’s 75 degrees and sunny with a light breeze, can’t complain.

* I am thankful for the upcoming weekend, and for a chance to relax and refocus my energy.

* I am thankful that wearing a pair of sneakers to work is ok at my job, because my other shoes hurt my feet.

What are you thankful for?

May or May Not Now with Homemade Tabbouleh!

Today may or may not have been one of those days where everything takes longer than expected, and is annoying.  Like, when your server/system at work comes to a crawl and your excel document won’t save, and you wanted to leave at 5pm but ended up stuck til 5:30 with so much to do.

I may or may not have skipped my run again today, because of said time difference in leaving work.

I may or may not have shoved a bag of sea salt kettle chips and half a Twix bar from the gas station in my mouth as I was driving home.

I may or may not have then eaten half a bag of cherry tomatoes when I got home.

I may or may not be craving Cracker Barrel extra sharp cheddar cheese something fierce.

For dinner tonight we are making Greek-Style Shrimp with Quinoa Tabbouleh.  The quinoa is in the rice cooker, the shrimp are marinating and Travis is playing his video game while we wait.  I may or may not be anxiously awaiting watching the new episode of Glee!  I am not a Britney Spears fan, and I never have been (seriously, back in 97, I was waiting for that personal crash and burn story,) but I respect the impact she’s had on pop culture and I love Glee….so…. yeah.

I have decided I really, really, really, need to do a run tomorrow.  I may not do the speed work that’s on the schedule, but at the very least I will be doing Monday’s easy 3 miler.  While it is cooler than it was yesterday, it’s still really warm and I do not do well in the heat.  I’ve had a throbbing headache off and on since it got really warm on Sunday. I am the worst Southern California resident ever. I am not tan, I do not tan, and I can’t be out in the sun and heat for long period of time.  My poor little Irish skin can’t handle it. ;)

The kittehs however, are loving this heat.  I guess it’s because they’re naked so this must be the most comfortable for them. When they aren’t laying, stretched out as long as possible on the floor somewhere, or the top of the couch, or the living room table, they are running around like wild animals.

Will you be watching tonight’s Britney episode of Glee?

An Open Letter to Fall

Downtown Los Angeles saw heavy development fro...

Dear Fall,

I would like to formally apologize for the whole of Los Angeles.  Whatever we did to offend you was certainly not intentional, and we would all greatly appreciate it if you would grace us once again with your beautiful, crisp, cool presence.  I hear that you are making appearances on the East coast, and I have to say, I am quite jealous. My blogger friends all around the country are enjoying pumpkin flavored meals, and hot oatmeal, and stews and soups, and right now, it feels like you could boil an egg in our kitchen, without the stove on.  It is now September 26th, only 4 days before October, and today is 103 degrees.  I understand we must have done something truly terrible to warrant your complete departure from our city, but, please reconsider. Some of us don’t have central air, and have to do laundry at a hot, sticky laundromat today.

Yours Truly,

Tiny

P.S. Please come back quickly! Also, if your hurt feelings were caused by one person in particular (perhaps Lindsay Lohan?) I’m sure we would be more than happy to take care of him or her for you. ;)

Hot Hot Hot

I know the rest of the country has been dealing with record temperatures this summer, but here in Southern California we’ve been having a pretty mild season. It was nice! Lots of days that reminded me more of San Francisco than Los Angeles, and it was nice to not be so uncomfortable all day/night. Nice not to come home to a stifling apartment (since we have not central air.)

Sadly, this week, summer decided to rear her ugly head and it has been really uncomfortably hot. Even with the portable air conditioner in the bedroom turned to 66 last night, I woke up several times sweating. Gross.

Breakfast this morning, because of the heat is a Carnation Instant Breakfast with 2% milk. I try not to drink milk because if I drink more than about 8oz it tends to make my stomach feel gross, but just the thought of eating something hot when the apartment is already so warm made me want to throw up. Not really..

Dinner last night I made Four Bean Enchiladas. I actually used just black beans, kidney beans and garbanzo beans because I couldn’t find plain canned pinto or navy beans, and didn’t want to use refried beans. This recipe calls for a can of cheese soup. I had never seen cheese soup in a can before, and let me tell you, I’m pretty sure that can of cheese soup made these enchiladas. I also made some Trader Joe’s brown rice medley, using the rice cooker.  Which took a lot longer than I anticipated.  Also, turning on the oven to cook these enchiladas was a bad idea. It was so hot!!

But the enchiladas were so good!!  Next time I make them I think I’ll try and find a healthier sub for the cheese soup.  Maybe some greek yogurt and melted cheese? I don’t know yet.

Also,  I will now leave you with an adorable picture of my friend Kate with my kittehs from last night.

That’s Peanut snuggling in Kate’s hair, and Little Bits attempting to bat her on the head.  Little bits gets jealous when she’s not the only kitteh getting love.
